Handicraft workshop: meet Céline Feillel Dauvier

The handicraft workshop is attracting more and more enthusiasts in search of creative, accessible, and liberating activities. Halfway between art brut and DIY, it offers a simple and authentic way to reconnect with the pleasure of working with your hands. Céline Feillel Dauvier, a public writer and experienced facilitator, opens the doors to her world of folded paper, shared writing, and creative freedom.

Who is Céline Feillel Dauvier?

My name is Céline Feillel Dauvier. My job is to be a public writer and writing workshop facilitator. And a few years ago, I opened a new space dedicated to handicrafts.

What does a craft workshop mean to you?

The handicraft workshop that I offer is more like DIY than an aesthetic art form. We start with a simple sheet of paper, which we fold like an accordion, and from there we can create notebooks, albums, exercise books, or small books. The idea is to make simple things with your hands, without any artistic pretensions.

My workshop is called “From Page to Book.” It has been running for four years and is aimed at those who want to do crafts and have fun, without any pressure to produce results. It’s an approach that flirts with art brut, far from academic standards. You just need to be a little handy with your hands, and I open it up to anyone aged 8 and above, with no upper age limit.

You also lead other types of workshops ?

Yes, absolutely. I also run writing workshops. These are non-academic, non-literary activities open to everyone. And this year marks my 25th anniversary in this field!

In addition, I am a public writer by trade: I help people write texts that they don’t have the time or ability to write themselves. My specialty? Life stories, in other words, biographies.

Where does your passion for outsider art come from?

I love crafting, embroidering, sewing, making things, and making jams… Every week, I set aside time for a craft activity. And since I’m also a facilitator at heart, I naturally wanted to share this pleasure with others.

My goal: to bring people into a creative bubble, without any aesthetic pressure. It’s not so much the beauty of the result that counts, but the gesture, the act of creating freely. It’s this approach that makes crafting accessible to everyone.

Is there a handmade creation that is particularly close to your heart?

Yes! It’s called Zhen Xian Bao, a “book of threads” made in China before the 1950s. It’s a work of folded paper that features a dozen small pockets, created solely by folding.

It’s a creation that is simple, ingenious, and deeply inspiring. It will surely be one of the projects I’ll be offering in my workshops at the end of the year.

In a few words, how would you summarize your approach?

My driving force is really animation, whether through writing or manual activities. I subscribe to a popular education approach, based on the idea that everyone is capable. It’s about democratizing access to creativity, making writing and crafts accessible, joyful, and uninhibited.

Key points to remember

Through her workshops in manual creation and writing, Céline Feillel Dauvier embodies a free and generous vision of transmission. Far from elitist standards, she invites everyone to reconnect with their ability to invent, imagine, and create with their hands. An inspiring encounter at the crossroads of sensitivity, manual skills, and community.
