At just 25 years old, Eva Henry is making her way in the art world with boundless creative energy. A visual artist, she juggles painting, drawing, video, and photography, exploring a wide variety of forms of expression to bring her unique universe to life (you can also find an interview on Le Mag Nohô with a host who is passionate about motorcycles and dreams of racing in Dakar, an interview with a host who is passionate about sailing and aims to complete a mini transat, and a passionate aerial artist, all of which can be found on our blog). We asked her a few questions to better understand her journey and what motivates her to always go further.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Eva Henry, I am 25 years old, I am a visual artist and I live in the Paris region.

Can you tell us more about your art?

I mainly work with painting and drawing, but I also do photography and video. My style is influenced by neo-expressionism, art brut, and contemporary art. Although I specialize in painting and drawing, I also make short films. I would like to develop this aspect of my work further, but for now I am focusing mainly on the visual arts.

What has been your career path?

Initially, I was drawn to cultural mediation. I started with a technical degree in social and sociocultural activities, with a specialization in mediation. It wasn’t a real passion, but I continued with a bachelor’s degree, then started a master’s degree in the same field. That’s when I realized that it wasn’t what I wanted to do.
Cultural mediation is mainly about describing and communicating art, but I wanted to create. So I did some community service while I thought about what to do next, then I switched to a master’s degree in digital and artistic creation. This program focused on digital technology, with a major component on audiovisual content creation.
At the same time, I already had some experience in the visual arts, with painting and drawing, so this master’s degree allowed me to explore new areas that appealed to me, such as video and photography.
I finished my studies last June, and since September, I have been fully developing my artistic practice as an artist and author.

Where do you exhibit?

Right now, I’m working with two local authorities: Pantin Town Hall and Évry Town Hall, on two very different projects.
In Pantin, I’m a videographer on an annual project. In Évry, I’m creating a three-dimensional model of a neighborhood in the city, which is a more artistic project, over a period of five months.
In addition, I will soon have a studio where I can work two days a week.
I am also in a research phase: I am applying for calls for projects and artist residencies, and I am offering workshops. Being an artist is not just about creating. The creative part only accounts for 50% of the time; the rest is administrative: paperwork, looking for venues, networking, etc.

What are your plans for the future?

Today, I visited a workshop so that I can continue creating in better conditions.

Otherwise, I have a group exhibition planned for May 10 in a Parisian bar: La Mutinerie. It’s a project that’s very important to me.

Do you have a favorite piece? Or does each one have its own special place?

In terms of video, there is a short film that is particularly close to my heart. It won me first prize in the CROUS Nice-Toulon competition, in the short film category, when I was still a student. I am very proud of it.
As for my drawings, I don’t really have a favorite. Each one has its own story and significance.
But I must admit that it’s always a little difficult for me to part with a piece when it’s sold.

Key points

With sincerity and commitment, Eva Henry is making her way in the world of contemporary art, never ceasing to explore, question, and create. Between collective projects, exhibitions, and experiments, she is building a personal and sensitive body of work that reflects her journey: free, curious, and deeply human. “Mediation was talking about other people’s art. I needed to create my own.”

An artist to follow with open eyes and an open heart.

A big thank you to her for agreeing to this short interview!
