Discover the world of 2Flui, a passionate artist who combines graffiti and calligraphy to enhance the written word. An encounter with urban art, creativity, and movement.
I’m Cyril, known as 2Flui. I am an artist specializing in letters, particularly in embellishing letters. I have been doing this for about 25 years. I am based in the Paris region, more specifically near Pontoise.
My passion began in the 90s, and it started with tagging. I became interested in it when I started taking public transportation. Since I wasn’t very comfortable speaking, nor someone who liked to talk too much, I found it was a good way to express myself without anyone knowing it was me.
At the time, the idea was to tag subway cars and trains. That’s really how it all started.
At first, it was simply seeing others doing it on trains and on the railroad tracks. When you travel around the Paris region, you see a lot of murals, tags, signatures… and of course, that attracts you. I thought to myself, “That’s an interesting practice,” and it immediately appealed to me.
But then there was a key moment:
During a trip to Tunisia around the year 2000, I came face to face with a traditional calligrapher. I spent over an hour in his studio watching him work and talking with him. When I got back to France, I immediately took up calligraphy.
When I had my children, I took a long break from graffiti. For six or seven years, I only did calligraphy at home, often while they were sleeping.
Then I returned to graffiti… and naturally, I mixed the two cultures: that of the street and that of calligraphy. It is really this mixture that has created my style today.
I started out as a graphic designer, then became an artistic director. I even set up my own agency. I lived like that for about twenty years, always keeping up my artistic practice on the side.
Then, about 15 years ago, I said to myself, “I’m tired of sitting in an office. Let’s get back outside.”
For five years, I did both at the same time: my professional activity and a gradual return to the streets. And then everything changed. For the past 7-8 years, I’ve been living fully in the artistic realm, 100%.
I don’t really have a favorite medium. I like all media.
I can paint on a train with a huge surface, on a 200-meter-long floor, or even on a beach, scratching the sand with a rake.
But if I’m honest, I prefer working on the ground. Because it engages the whole body. There’s something very physical, very immersive about this practice.
I also make canvases, and sometimes I even make them on the ground and then cut them up to create fragments, like pieces of the ground, which can then be hung in people’s homes.
Yes. It’s a piece in Saint-Brieuc. I was given carte blanche on a wall measuring approximately 15 meters high by 10 meters wide. It’s a powerful piece for me, and clearly one of the ones I’m most proud of today.
What I want to share is more about my work in the studio than my work on the street. On the street, people might bump into me by chance. But entering my studio world, seeing what I produce, understanding my approach… that’s much rarer.
Thanks to Nohô, I can invite people to come and discover this world. I want them to see how my studio work is directly inspired by my street art.
I welcome all kinds of visitors, even children. We can even do a short introduction, so there’s a real immersion in my artistic world.
Throughout his career, 2Flui has embodied a unique approach to art, at the crossroads of graffiti, calligraphy, and research into letters. His work tells a story of patience, gesture, transmission, and transformation.
The encounters offered on Nohô become much more than a simple visit: they are true immersions into an authentic, living, and deeply human artistic universe.
