A painter for the past ten years, Mookimax, whose real name is Maxime Couasnon, has developed a colorful universe inspired by cartoons, comic books, manga, and pop culture.
Between participatory murals, teaching young people, and creating his signature character Gaston L’ourson, he has built a body of work that is engaging, accessible, and deeply rooted in humor. On Nohô, he offers introductory drawing workshops and an immersion in his artist’s studio.
My name is Mookimax, my real name is Maxime Couasnon.
I have been a painter for about ten years. My style is oriented around cartoons, comic books, manga and, more broadly, pop culture.
I’m involved in everything related to drawing in one way or another.
I started out as a youth worker. I’ve always wanted to maintain that connection with children and teenagers. Today, creating participatory murals and giving drawing lessons to children allows me to maintain that connection. Passing on knowledge is really part of my artistic journey.
I’m really passionate about cartoons. Anything colorful, round, and humorous. I like it to be funny, accessible, and visually striking.
Yes. I created a character called Gaston Lourson. He’s a cute little bear who pokes fun at all the absurdities of our society.
The idea is to offer a quick and easy-to-read comic book aimed at pre-teens and teens, to raise their awareness of issues such as politics, the environment, and the inconsistencies that can be found in schools.
The format is simple: one panel, one joke, and on to the next.
Yes, I think it’s the creation of Gaston L’ourson. He’s become my signature character.
The idea was to have a mascot that would follow me everywhere and represent my world. Today, he’s really my artistic identity.
