Jas, Host on Nohô: 30 Years of Passion for Comics and the Joy of Storytelling

Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Jas, and I’ve been a comic book writer and artist for about thirty years, and a professional writer for about twenty years. I live in Selles-sur-Cher, where I currently work in my studio. I have 30 Years of Passion for Comics.

How did this passion begin?

I’ve always loved telling stories. At first, I wasn’t very good at drawing, so I taught myself how to draw through a lot of practice. Little by little, I started creating my first comic stories. They were first published in small fanzines, then I started self-publishing. That’s how my career as a comic book author really began.

Do you draw inspiration from a particular world?

Yes, of course. I was very inspired by Hergé when designing the human characters in *Jacques RIFFEUR*. I also really liked *Poussy* by Peyo (the cat Poussy) and *The Adventures of Chlorophylle* by Raymond Macherot. These influences inspired me to create some of my characters, like Néris the hedgehog.

What medium do you use to tell your stories?

I mainly use comics, as that’s really my primary medium. But I’m also considering exploring other formats, such as novel adaptations. I also have a project with my partner: she would write the story and I would create the illustrations. At the same time, I’ve also done some illustration and advertising work.

Is there a work you’re particularly proud of?

Yes. There’s a comic that’s doing particularly well and is probably the one closest to my heart. It tells the story of a character who’s a bit like a child discovering life and adventures. Over time, this character grows up and his stories become a bit more mature. It’s a project that’s particularly close to my heart.

What kind of event are you hosting on Nohô?

On Nohô, I’m primarily offering a chance to meet and discuss comics. People can come check out my studio. It’s not a very big studio, but it’s the first one I’ve had all to myself in about five years, and it’s an important place in my career. I mainly show the behind-the-scenes process of creating a comic:

  • the initial ideas
  • the pencil sketches
  • the different stages of production
  • the coloring process, whether on the computer, with watercolors, or using other techniques.

It’s also a very interactive experience. Visitors can ask all their questions: how to create a character, how to build a story, how to produce a panel…

I’m also lucky to have created a comic based on the history of the town of Selles-sur-Cher. If people come by, I can also show them this work and tell the story of the place. And then the idea is also to share a friendly moment: we can chat quietly over coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. It’s truly a time for conversation and discovery.

Comics as a Medium for Storytelling

Through his work, Jas conveys much more than just drawings: he shares a passion for storytelling, creativity, and the imagination. You’ll discover life through his adventures.

Jas has been a professional for 30 years, including 20 years in self-publishing. Today, he continues to explore new projects while keeping that simple joy of storytelling intact. The meetups offered on Nohô are an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the comic book world, but also to interact directly with an author who is passionate about his craft.
