At 2.30pm, we arrived in the beautiful Somme region, near Ault, under slightly cloudy skies. We met up with Alice, host on the Nohô platform and passionate about nature and hunting. She also works as a volunteer for the Chasseresse De France association, where she represents the Hauts-de-France region with Martine PION, the movement’s president and founder. She promised us an immersion in a world where tradition, biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes blend harmoniously.
As soon as we arrived, Alice greeted us with a broad smile and infectious energy. She took the time to introduce us to the area, explaining its specific natural and historical features. Nestled between towering cliffs, vast marshes and the Baie de somme, this area is a real gem for outdoor enthusiasts.
The visit continued with a focus on waterfowl hunting, a practice deeply rooted in local traditions. Alice led us through the facilities used for this activity, explaining in detail their role and operation. She also talked about the area’s specialities, including the bird species that can be found here: ducks, geese, cormorants and many others.
We also discussed the legal framework for this activity, with an overview of the requirements for obtaining a hunting license. Alice was able to convey her love for the practice, while insisting on the importance of preserving ecosystems.
After this rich discovery, head for the pebble beach and nearby coastline. This area, bordered by the sea, is also a popular hunting ground for waterfowl. We took time to contemplate this unique landscape where land and sea intertwine. The horizon, punctuated by the comings and goings of birds, offered a soothing and memorable spectacle.
To round off this wonderful afternoon, we sat down for coffee with Alice and her family. The discussion took on a convivial tone, oscillating between personal anecdotes and reflections on the transmission of hunting traditions. Their enthusiasm and generosity made the meeting an enriching and authentic experience.
The time spent with Alice was much more than a simple discovery: it was a true immersion in a passion lived with respect and love for nature. Whether you’re curious or passionate, a meeting with Alice promises to be a wonderful discovery and a rejuvenating break in the heart of the Somme. You can share her stories directly on Nohô. She’ll be delighted to help you discover her world.
